Chariot of the Moon

Fresco from middle ages shows the Chariot of the Moon. Reminiscent of the Chariot card in the Tarot Deck this image shows the Chariot pulled by the twin horses of light and darkness that mark the phases of the Moon which is now dark during the New Moon that began on Sunday.

Sunday brought the energy of a New Moon to bear in our lives. Think beginnings. New plans. Have another look at those goals you have for Spring and Summer — at home and at work. In Astrology we know that the New Moon can guide us to a new start in our affairs. This is a good time for formulation and planning — our Moon is in a Dark phase, and so it gives us a time of pause — a regrouping, if you will.

New Moon energy can assist you in gathering your emotional energy for wonderful new vibrations and manifestations in your life.

You can also learn much about the influence of the Moon in a person’s birth chart. Most people are aware of the Sun Signs in their horoscopes — your “sign” is an indication of where the Sun was at your birth, so if you’re a Libra, the Sun was in the constellation of Libra at that time, etc. But many Astrologers believe, as introduced by the French astrologer Dan Rudhyar, that the Moon’s position in your Horoscope (called a “Lunation type”) is equally important. I’ll write more about this in future posts, but for now enjoy some lunar meditations on a quiet spring evening and think about how it affects your life.

In Chinese cosmogony the moon is typically said to be identified with the feminine principle, the yin. This may be because a woman’s menstrual cycle roughly corresponds to one lunar month that is of 29 or 30 days.

In Indian astrology, (also called Jyotisa or Vedic astrology) the Moon is a lunar deity called Chandra. Chandra is also identified with the Vedic lunar deity Soma. For Indian Astrologers, the moon represents the mind, queenship, mother, emotions, sensitivity, softness and imagination.

So, as we enjoy the energy of the New Moon this week, let it assist you in gathering your emotional energy for wonderful new vibrations and manifestations in your life.

Astro-Forecast – Emotional Blocks and Spiritual Release

Monday launches the week under the energy of the new Moon with four Astro-energies in play. In all, it’s a harmonious start of the work week with a good outlook at both home and work. The key is to not be held back by false limitations. Instead, follow the great will of your Spirit… get “fired up” and break through to the next level in your career and romantic life.

“Spirit. Prayer. Meditation. Focus. These things will keep you on the right path.”

On Tuesday, we find a bit more tension in the air — embrace it. Huh? That’s right — tension can often be good for getting what you need. Think of the tension of the hunt, tension during college, tension as you move up the ladder at work. Think of the tension when you first told someone you loved them. Good tension. Today is like that. All you have to do is what is right — be guided by your principles and things will turn out well in the end.

At mid-week we see a couple of emotional blockages in the area of spiritual health on Wednesday. The key is to take a new approach. Has someone shot down an idea you had at work? At odds with your mate? No worries. Take a break, get a little exercise, and think about what often brings you strength of Spirit. Prayer. Meditation. Focus. These things will keep you on the right path. Take heart — a new way of looking at things is all you need.

As Thursday rolls in, we find a bit of good feeling in our comfort zone. Sometimes it’s hard to break out of habits and routines. That’s ok… but the trick is knowing when to stay comfortable, and when to make a break for the next level. You can embrace the routine for a while, but always be looking forward to your next move. Embrace change and the opportunities it brings you.

The workweek ends on Friday, much like it began with a very harmonious and opportune day due to the positioning of the astro-energies. It’s time to enjoy romance with your mate… at lunch… at dinner… maybe at lunch and dinner — woo hoo. You know the spirit of celebration that carries you across the floor like your feet aren’t touching the ground? That’s how you can feel today. Enjoy your day!

Ready to howl at the Moon? Now’s a good time, under the light of the magnificent full Harvest Moon. A time of culmination, completion, finishing plans and a project together. Emotions run high during this time. A time of romance, fertilization, relationships, emotions, feelings. Welcome to the Harvest.

There are four distinct phases of the Moon, with the Full Moon falling in the third Quarter of the Moon’s cycle. This Harvest Full Moon in September (named so because in the extra light, people were able to continue working to gather the season’s Harvest), is a time of gathering, potent energy and success.

“A time of romance, fertilization, relationships, emotions, feelings. Welcome to the Harvest.”

A person born during the third quarter Moon will be sensitive to the needs of others and expects others to be sensitive to their own needs. There is an underlying sense of watchfulness similar to the energy in the zodiac signs Libra and Scorpio. The person will need friendships, colleagues and relationships, and will relate well to others. They will either be drawn to highly successful people and help them achieve their goals, or else achieve success themselves with the help of others. There is a tension and nervousness at play which can lead to a short attention span and a constant search for new people and experiences, and sex will play some kind of transformative role in their life. The most successful time of life will be in the middle years.

In Chinese Astrology, the third quarter Moon symbolizes organization, harvest, collection and storage, and is associated with autumn, the west and the element metal. This lunar phase governs the signs of Monkey, Rooster, and Dog.

Time to complete your work. Time to celebrate. The end of Summer, beginning of Fall. So go the cycles in the great celestial circle of the year as we bask in the full light of the Harvest Moon.

Moon Phases from one to eight as used by Astrologers

Most Astrologers identify eight distinct phases of the Moon — we are in Phase 2 right now.

Today, Saturday, the Moon (Emotion) is dancing with Mercury (Communication) which makes it a good time to speak about what you feel. Are you able to express your feelings? It can seem difficult, but when you speak what is in your heart in a calm collected way it is for the best. Think of three steps: meditate quietly on what you are feeling so you can put the right words to it, pick a good place to talk with the person your feelings involve, and after you get it off your chest, be sure to listen intently for what you can learn from your friend/partner/spouse.

“Maybe it’s time to get creative about your spirituality? …to be healthy, Faith always requires an active and passionate awareness.”

Looking into Sunday, Venus (Love) is dancing well with Uranus and this can bring out a passion for a new idea that you present in a group (like a club) setting. Mercury and Neptune’s dance today make it possible for you to address your spiritual beliefs, and creative pursuits. Maybe it’s time to get creative about your spirituality? Sometimes the way you deal with your Faith can become a sort of habit on auto-pilot. But to be healthy, Faith always requires an active and passionate awareness. Is it time for a Spiritual retreat?

Looking forward into the week, the Sun and the Moon are working well together on Monday, and this gives the right balance to start it off right. You’re coming back from a vacation, you’ve seen your family and friends, and you’re ready to tackle the mid-summer projects at work. You’ll have some creativity left over from Sunday to help you get started. And the Moon this week is in “Waxing” (growing larger) mode, which is also a good time to focus on your ambitions. This is a time of “doing” and a time for action. Make good use of it.
