The Sun — the fire of your Personality — can cause communication disruptions with solar flares during a Mercury Retrograde period (which we are now in)

Welcome to Friday — a powerful day. Not just because tomorrow is the weekend, and you can feel it coming on. Celestially, the Sun (Personality) is working with with the Moon (Emotions) to bring a feeling of balance. And the Moon is also working well with Mars (Initiative) to bring a certain potency to your work and relationships. That’s good — it’s been a trying week. Remember to focus carefully on how you communicate during this Mercury Retrograde period.

Did you feel like you just couldn’t find the right words in conversations, and also when writing emails this week? This happens from time to time, and there are a couple of celestial reasons why. On Thursday, the Moon (Emotions) squared off with Mercury (Communications), and we are also in a Mercury Retrograde period which throws some sand into our communication processes. Just remember that such things are often opportunities in disguise. How so? Well, editing your writing, and gathering your thoughts before speaking can really be a big help. You’ll look a lot more professional at work that way, and appear thoughtful in your personal relationships.

Remember that in a Mercury Retrograde period and you need to check and double-check your communications. Good listening skills are in order. Double-check that you have heard both your boss, and your loved ones correctly. Then use the energy you feel to make a reasoned and cautious move. Despite your perceived urgency, do not be hasty.

And on Listening Skills remember that Communications experts have found that there are always four different messages for each single communication: What the speaker intends to say, what they actually say, what you think you heard, and what you think it means. So the speaker could fail to get the point across, and you could misunderstand it. What’s the best thing to do? Check that you understood what a person wrote or said to you by asking if you heard correctly. It’s that simple.

Looking to the weekend, the celestial forecast shows the Moon (Emotions) squaring off with Jupiter (Growth), so don’t be surprised to find yourself hanging back from things that might bring growth. Ever heard of “growing pains?” Your opportunity is not to fear taking a needed step to get ahead, even if it seems like there might be some momentary aches. Sometimes just learning something new — the learning curve — holds people back. Don’t let it. The Moon is also working well today with Neptune (Spirituality) which can give you that needed boost to forge ahead. Keep it practical, though, and don’t bite off more than you can chew.

Astrologers study “aspects” — the relative positions of planets at a certain point in time — by charting positions, and tracking affects.

Often when I write blog posts, I talk about how the planets are working in the heavens, sometimes cooperating with one another, and sometimes at odds and how that impacts us here on earth. And in horoscope charts, aspects are patterns we check to ascertain elements of the personality. But what are these “aspects” exactly? I get the question a lot, so let’s take a closer look.

“Aspect patterns have a major influence on your personality and character by creating greater ease or resistance.”

You can think of aspects as way in which the planets work together to make things easier, or harder for you. You can track (chart) aspects by studying the angles that planets form to one another at particular points in time. And, when several aspects occur in the same chart (or simultaneously), they can create larger aspect patterns. Instead of one aspect, several planets in aspect can create a larger aspect pattern. These larger patterns can signify a complex personality pattern, referred to by psychologists as “complexes”.

Modern astrologers approach aspects more from data and reporting in current research with some consideration of historical reference. “Astrological harmonics” is an umbrella term having to do with the study and factoring in of all aspects for a given person, or situation.

Aspect patterns have a major influence on your personality and character by creating greater ease or resistance. They can also be set off and stepped up by transiting and progressed planets. A natal trine may become a Grand Trine whenever a third planet enters the part of the zodiac that trines both planets already in trine. A T-Square can become a Grand Square, and a sextile can become a Yod. This can also happen in relation to other people and their planets can form larger aspect patterns with yours. Having these aspects together can create feelings of immediate rapport and significant relationship dynamics or something you are both attracted to work on or understand.

Helpful Aspects: Trines & Grand Trines

Trines are formed between a couple of planets when they are roughly at a 120 degree angle from each other and generally are viewed as a favorable influence with the energy of each planet contributing to the positive energy of the trine. A simple example would be on a particular day when Mercury (Communication) forms a trine with Venus (Love), then it can be said to be fortuitous to speak what is in your heart — about love, on that day. But things are usually much more complex than that, and even following trines, there can be too many of them in a chart which might tend to make a person lazy.

When 2 planets make a trine (120 degree angle), and there is a 3rd planet that also makes trines to both planets, this triangle is called a Grand Trine. Imagine a planet at 0 degrees Aries, another at 0 Leo and a 3rd at 0 Sagittarius, and this is a Grand Trine. The 3 planets that make up a Grand Trine are usually in the same ELEMENT. They don’t have to be, as some aspects are very close, yet out-of-sign. However, the principle of a Grand Trine is that there or 3 (or more) planets trine each other in the same element. When you see a Grand Trine in a chart, it looks like a large triangle.

A Grand Trine aspect pattern can create a feeling of ease and complacency because things seem to “just happen” seamlessly, without effort, friction, or force. This can signify a special talent or ability that appears effortless, but it can also signal a tendency to be lazy or complacent because things come so easily that there is nothing to prove and talent is never fully developed. Your tendency can be to leave the tough stuff for another day. With a Grand Trine, there’s always tomorrow….

Challenging Aspects: T-Squares and Grand Squares

When 3 planets square each other, they form a triangle called a T-Square. In a T-Square, there is one planet that squares 2 other planets that oppose each other. If you envision a planet at 0 degrees Aries with a planet square it from 0 Capricorn and another at 0 Cancer, this is a T-Square. If there is also a 4th planet in square with the others, for example a planet at 0 degrees Libra, this creates a Grand Square pattern.

A T-Square is a challenging aspect that signifies a struggle that intensifies and eventually leads to a resolution. While T-Square configurations are common, they signify an inherent challenge that forces growth or change that can lead to success in life. The focal planet, or planet that squares the opposing planets, is the key to the T-Square and shows where tension is most likely to show up. Conflict resolution may be aided by the missing or empty part of the Square (opposing the focal planet).

While T-Squares are often found in charts, Grand Squares are less common and often signify a weight to bear that keeps you on a short leash. It may seem like access is continuously denied and you are restricted to a small area where growth is only possible with discipline and hard work. For some reason or another, you are continually stressed and need to consciously maintain balance, always being forced to stick to the straight and narrow. Somehow, these people often learn to carry big loads and are capable of effectively handling large responsibilities. However, they can also feel overstressed and overburdened at times.

Cosmic Aspects: Yods

In a YOD pattern, 2 planets make a sextile, and they both make a quincunx (inconjunct or 150 degree aspect) to a 3rd planet, creating a triangle, or Yod. If you imagine a planet at 0 Aries and 2 planets sextile each other at 0 Virgo and 0 Scorpio, this is a Yod.

Yods are called the “finger of God” and have a connotation of being receptive to messages from higher states of consciousness. While Yods can be exotic and you can enjoy the adventure of feeling like a stranger in a strange land, you may also need to make consessions and be adaptive to unfamiliar situations when you have a Yod in your chart. It may be that you give in one direction and get your needs met from a completely different source, so it is not possible to measure how much others give you to decide how much you can give.

All of these kaleidoscope of patterns factor in together in your horoscope and the picture (a snapshot of patterns) that astrologers consider for daily, weekly, and monthly events.

Happy Mid-March Weekend. On Saturday, the cosmos are aligned in a couple of interesting aspects — Venus (Love) along with Jupiter (Growth) are positioned to cause you to think twice about what your heart is telling you to do in the way of moving ahead. Uncertainty can simply mean you need to think it through, and have a good plan. Interesting then that also on Saturday, Mercury (Communication) is in position to work with Pluto (Renewal), which means it is a good idea to talk over your growth plans with someone whose advice you trust. Listen well.

As Astrologers, we learn to listen to the Cosmos and what relative positions of the great planetary spheres may tell us. Last Monday came in like a breeze since the Moon was positioned well with a number of planets including Pluto, Saturn, and Mars. You may have noticed feelings of confidence, assurance, and even being pleased with accomplishments translating into smooth going at work, and in your relationships. Under these sorts of influences, it’s good to make decisions with your emotions balanced. Think things through, weigh the odds, and come down in a principled way. Then, enjoy the success.

Harmony. That’s what we all wish for in our lives. Sometimes the Moon and Planets move into position to further that desire. Welcome to March. Spring is on its way, and today Venus is working with Pluto to influence motives that might not necessarily be on the surface. Ever wonder what the intention is behind what someone says to you? It will be good to reflect on intention and motivation this weekend, and what you discern and learn can lead to a breakthrough in your relationships. Much of motivation is initiated by feelings — that’s why Advertising gurus insist that purchases are made on emotion, rather than logic.

We’re headed toward a new Moon (Emotion) in Pisces (Spiritual) this week (on Friday), so it’s a good time to use imagination, meditation, and visualization to renew your Faith. This can be faith in your career, faith in your relationships, and yeah — the big Faith. Mars enters Cancer on Tuesday, which means that initiative has has to find its way through some emotional interference. You can do it. Take a deep breath, get centered, and thing logically about what you must do. Prioritize and get it done. There’ll be time to address your feelings after you cross off a few items — and you’ll feel better because you got things out of the way.

How was your weekend? Venus was working with Chiron for a couple of days in the heavens to bring you needed healing energy. In Mythology, Chiron, a Centaur, was a great healer, astrologer, and respected oracle, the last remaining centaur was most revered as a teacher and tutor. You can meditate on that image and think about how teaching, healing, and the energy from above are all interconnected.

Looking toward Wednesday, we can see that Venus (Love) and Neptune are dancing together to once again bring emotions to play for new beginnings. What a week. Heal, Deal, then Feel all over again. You have the sensitivity now to tune in to your higher self, and get what you need from groups, gatherings, and the new ideas and brainstorms that are generated. In two days, the New Moon will help you launch those plans that come from this time with a new energy and a Springtime surge.

So, as we enter the season of Pisces, ask yourself, is your fantasy something you’d like to become your reality? You can make it so!

Last Wednesday, we had a Lunar Eclipse. Remember that Eclipses occur in 19 year cycles. The last Virgo - Pisces Eclipse was Feb. 20th, 1989. Whatever you were contemplating back then — stop for a moment and think about where you were and what you were doing, where you were going and why — what motivated you to go forward or stop whatever it was you were doing. Now reconsider that this your second chance now to begin again or add to what you began then, to make better what you started back then. Have you seen the old blue and white full Moon in the clear, crisp January nights? It went full yesterday (Tuesday), in Leo a sign that is focused on the self. Meanwhile, the Sun is now in Aquarius, which takes itself less seriously. You therefore have a lot of energy for self indulgence, balanced by an interesting Aquarian objectivity. Will your friendship progress toward romance? Part of you wants that, while another part sees the bigger picture and wonders where it might lead. On Wednesday, the Moon (emotion) “opposes” Mercury (Communication) which can put you in a bind for what to say about the dilemma you feel between what you want in the short term versus what you see for the long term. You can find a way to turn this into an opportunity, with the right dash of introspection.

On Thursday, 1/24, one of the things happening in the heavens is a conjunction of Venus (Love) with Pluto (transformation). When planets are in conjunction, their energies can act on each other in quite intense ways. And, the propostion of Astrology is that energy generated in the Cosmos has its impact on Earth. So… put Love, and Transformation together, and what do you get? A couple of possibilities: passions become stronger as the need to move forward compels intense feelings of love/friendship, and that a love/friendship relationship is headed into a new phase as it evolves. The key is to let Pluto’s metamorphing energy guide you rationally through all the new feelings.

This weekend, the good old Moon, now in a powerful but waning stage, has decided to “square” two planets — both Mars and Pluto. Squares (the relative position of two or more planets), can create some tension, and also some great opportunities. The Moon (emotion), facing off with Mars (passion) creates some emotional fire that can ignite a romance. And with the Moon and Pluto (renewal), squaring off, we can see that deep feelings again come into play with potential for a transformation. So between friends and lovers you’re likely to feel some things that move you — and your relationship — to the next level. Go with it… but don’t let your emotions get the best of you. Take what time you need to think it all through.

Consider how this clock, in Prague, tracks time, and Astrology — a mechanism which reveals and links the passing of the hours with celestial influences.

A lot of what Astrologers look at has to do with how two or more planets are positioned to each other, and how the tension between them — in the heavens — can exert an effect on us on Earth. Remember, the Moon can cause the tides. So other planets, some many times the size of the Moon, though at great distance, have their influence on us as well. Right now, one thing that is going on in the Zodiac, is that Venus is positioned to “square” (at a 90 degree angle) Uranus. This can create a tension in your relationships and with people close to you where you may have some different ideas about how to proceed, then they do.

On Tuesday (01/15) of this week, the Moon “squares” the Sun in the heavens. Then, later in the week, Venus enters Aquarius. Again, a “square” creates a kind of celestial tug of war. And, when the Moon — ruler of emotions — has tension with the Sun — the light of your personality — you may see some emotions affecting your behavior. Deal with them. Remember: feel, deal, heal. That will get you ready for the planet of Love (Venus) entering the somewhat unpredictable sign of Aquarius. Deal with your emotions up front, then you can deal, much better, with any unexpected things that come up in your relationships later in the week.

On Thursday (01/17), a couple of interesting planetary configurations include the Moon squaring Neptune, and then we have a Moon trine Sun configuration this evening. This is nice for the emotional side of things where your gut instincts may be important in what you create today. Your emotions may again play a key role in how you are perceived tonight and tomorrow, as you can be sympathetic with friends and sweethearts. This is a time for emotional intelligence. Trust what your feelings are telling you.

On Friday (1/18) the Moon creates a little tension with the Sun, based on its position celestially. They are at an angle known in Astrology as a “sesquiquadrate.” This can result with your feelings being at odds with what your “head” is telling you. Logic versus emotions. Each have their value. Put it down on paper, and sleep on it overnight, before making a decision. Again, the Moons role in providing signals for our “emotional intelligence” comes into play. Trust your gut instinct once again, but make sure you don’t act irrationally. Of course there are other factors involved like your own individual personality, your horoscope, and the influences of other planets.

So, just like there’s a mechanism to the universe, with orbits and gravities affecting planet sized bodies… so there are gears of influence that encircle and work their wills on our lives.

How long does it take you to make the decision to sleep or better said ‘have SEX’ with someone? 3 minutes?

People… please… if you want to talk about matters of great importance such as a serious relationship in which you are currently involved, or considering entering, or about a man or woman whom you are considering sleeping with… please… take sexy seriously. In case you didn’t realize it yet, having sex with another human being is a SERIOUS MATTER!

Many of you whom I talk to frequently will attest to, and even those whom I haven’t spoken with yet, will also agree, I’m sure, that it doesn’t matter whether it’s Oral Sex or Intercourse, it’s still Sex and it’s Serious, and it’s Serious Sex, and making this decision is a HUGE decision that needs to be truly thought about and discussed. Talk about it with the person whom you’re considering having a sexual relationship with, or with someone older and wiser who can assist you with what you will be feeling afterwards once you entertain this experience. 3 minute decisions of this nature can and oftentimes are deadly.

People I am willing to talk openly and honestly with you, about this sensitive subject matter, and assist you wisely about this in a confidential manner. However, if you want to get a good handle on things then please call me — or any other therapist or advisor for that matter of your choice, but do plan to talk with us for a period longer than 3 minutes about matters of this nature. Otherwise, you are doing yourself an injustice, and us a disservice, as we are unable to address your situation in the most appropriate sense because that is simply not enough time to get down to the ROOT with you of what is important in making such a serious and wise decision.

Because the BOTTOM LINE IS THIS, to ask the question is utterly ridiculous: “Am I going to have Sex with Dave or Susan Saturday Nite”? If this is your first, second or third date… and this is the first time we’ve talked, regardless of what my intuition wants to tell me, my head and mouth wants to speak very calmly but directly why are you even asking me this question, you have already made your decision, YES! And then SCREAM AT YOU at the top of my lungs…’NO’… absolutely NOT! It’s not time yet!

So what are you really asking me? You’ve already made your decision. You know you want to sleep (have sex) with this person. Isn’t the following what you are truly asking me: “Am I going to have Sex with Susan or Dave and am I making the right decision?” That is what I am intuiting. I am intuiting both the fact that you’ve already made up your mind to have sex as well as how wrong it is to go ahead and have it, at this point. But we only have three minutes, because you’ve only paid for three minutes to discuss a decision that could literally KILL YOU!

Is your decision a wise decision?

People, three (3) minutes is not long enough to talk about anything that is as serious as something like this, that I mentioned above, or anything that concerns a major interest or that could ALTER the course of YOUR LIFE, or, as I wrote about, could actually cost you your life, Okay. After all, any relationship where you are sharing your time, effort, energy and body fluids — is a serious matter, as I’m sure you’ll agree, you all, or most of you read the papers and watch the news. And having sex with someone does require more time and attention in making this decision, than perhaps making a decision about what outfit you’re going to wear on a date tomorrow nite, or whose car you’re going to use, to pick up your date in tomorrow nite. Those questions I will be happy to answer in three minutes and be smiling about when we hang up!

What you’re going to wear, or which car you’re going to drive should only take 3 minutes! Boys and Girls, Men and Women, PEOPLE everywhere, My own Children — if you’re possibly reading this, Please take note that whether or not you’re going to seriously date as in sleep with and have SEX with someone should take 3 to 6 months — or longer. Thank you…and you’ll someday thank me, too, I hope! ;)
