Daija View: Fools, April Love, and Palm Sunday…
Celestial Greetings –
Remember how wonderfully foolish things were at first?
Did you ever hear the old song, “April Love?” Its signature lyric goes like this, “April Love… it’s for the very young.” Well, I think those writers made a mistake. I believe it is “for the very young… at heart.” A very interesting synchronicity is that where love is concerned, most poets, bards, and songwriters associate the word “Fool” with it. Hmmmm. April Fools’ Day, indeed. Remember the lyrics, “why do Fools fall in love?” How about the song “Foolish Games?”
“Fools, you see, know the power of laughter, and the shamanic healing that comes from telling the truth in such a way that folks can laugh as they ‘take their medicine.’”
In the Tarot Deck, the Fool card is the only numberless card in the deck. The Fool stands at the beginning, outside of the dance, drama, and numbered story — before it unfolds. In innocence, and with no attachments, the Fool proceeds spontaneously and happily approaches all new experiences. And what an experience, Love can be. Remember how amazing your first love was? Wow… what a sizzle. My wish for you is that you can let go (of troubles, worries, concerns — you know… all that is a bit dark), find that newness again, recreating that oh so special spark! Whether you’re in a long-term relationship, or just setting out on a new friendship/budding romance, there’s love just around the next corner for you. So read on to see just how you can experience what’s about to occur this month for you!
In Zen Buddhism, there is a concept known as “Beginner’s Mind.” It means having a sense of open-ness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when approaching something, or someone. Just like the Fool (in love). Just like first love. In the Zen teacher, Shunryu Suzuki’s book, Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind
Remember too, that the Fool can be a Jester — in the modern (regular) playing card deck, it is the “Joker.” Fools, you see, know the power of laughter, and the shamanic healing that comes from telling the truth in such a way that folks can laugh as they “take their medicine.” Wise Kings and Queens valued smart court Jesters quite highly. And of course, because there was no such thing as ‘TV’, royalty employed Jesters frequently for their entertainment. Comedy with integrity is a way of honoring the truth in an exceptionally honorable entertaining way. I asked a man in his 70′s once, “why do so many songs about love, include the word ‘fool’ in them?” He laughed and shook his head, saying, “I’m not sure, and I really want to know that answer.” But he enjoyed the wisdom in the humor.
When you first fall in love, you treat your beloved with great respect, consideration and honor. One of the best pieces of marital wisdom I have received, is to continue to treat your spouse like an “honored guest from out of town.” You know… when that person you see only once every 5-10 years comes to town, you give them the best towels, take them out to dinner, clean up your house… and yourself. Can you go back to the beginning of your relationship… and know that place again?
And speaking of such honor… this month also sees the celebration of “Palm Sunday”, which comes from the tradition of covering the path of an honored person with something valuable — in this case… palm fronds. The palm branch was a symbol of triumph and of victory, in Jewish tradition. Because of this, the scene of the crowd greeting Jesus by waving palms and carpeting his path with them has given the Christian festival its name
One last piece of synchronicity… Jesus always told the faithful, that it is “by your BELIEF,” that you are healed and saved, etc. I’m not sure the Doobie Brother’s had this in mind with their lyrics, “What a Fool believes, he sees,” but it seems like a very critical truth. Probably the Doobie’s song was about the negative affect of being a fool who wishes for something that just isn’t destined to be. But, you can be like the positive, youthful hearted fool who believes in what CAN be and then enjoy unfathomably, your new April love that is coming to “BE”. Don’t be foolish (blind to what’s important), be like the Fool — the brave heart that approaches life’s great gifts with honor, good humor, and the courage of innocence. That’s my precious prayer for you, today and always!!

You’re in the spotlight and sure to be ‘seen’ by many, ‘viewed’ by all, and only enjoyed by a select few, and only those few that you choose! Enhance your ‘attraction quotient by advancing your education, beauty and brains is a nice mix for what you’ve got coming upon the professional scene after the 17th, when you’re in the right place at the right time, for a promotion, raise, or both.
