Howling Moon Marks Tides of Change as Phil Predicts Early Spring
Did you notice the big Howling (The February Full Moon is traditionally called the WOLF MOON) full moon that began the month of February? Full moons happen about every 29.5 days, and this one was a nice, crisp moon in the cold Winter skies of early February. Did you see it? How did it affect your life? All you have to do is ask any emergency room doctor if the Full Moon has an affect on people — they’ll tell you it definitely does, then give you several amusing stories. How could it be so? Consider that the human body is composed of approximately 92% water. Then take a look at what the Moon does to a large body of water, for example, our ocean tides are created and the waves influenced by the phases of the moon. Thus, the moon phases also bring “waves” and “tides” of change in our personal life circumstances and relationships. Human beings are very much influenced by the phases of the moon.
You can adjust your own radar and look around you to awaken to those things the Full Moon brings into your life. Did you feel more alive at this time? Did you party & celebrate (get ready for some football!)? Did you meet someone new?
In Astrology, the moon is associated with a person’s emotional make-up, unconscious habits, rhythms, memories and moods. It is also associated with the mother, maternal instincts or the urge to nurture, the home, and the past. The moon is the ruler of the 4th house — the home and family, and also indicates caring for someone or something.
In Chinese astrology, the Moon represents Yin, the passive, receptive feminine life principle. In Indian astrology, the Moon is called Soma and represents the mind.
It’s interesting that animals, particularly in Native American lore, are often associated with Moons. The January Moon is called the “The Old Moon” and the February Full Moon, “The Wolf Moon”. As a people, the Natives were much more in tune with their environments, and so linked celestial events to the goings on of and within nature. You can adjust your own radar and look around you to awaken to those things the Full Moon brings into your life. Did you feel more alive at this time? Did you party & celebrate (get ready for some football!)? Did you meet someone new?
Speaking of animals at this time of year, did you note that Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this past week? Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog resident of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. On February 2, (Groundhog Day) of each year, the town of Punxsutawney celebrates the beloved groundhog with a festive atmosphere of music and food. During the ceremony, which begins well before the winter sunrise, Phil emerges from his temporary home on Gobbler’s Knob, located in a rural area about 2 miles east of town. According to the tradition, if Phil sees his shadow and returns to his hole, the United States will have six more weeks of winter. If Phil does not see his shadow, spring will arrive early. This year, the little guy did NOT see his shadow. Let’s hope the tradition holds true — many around the US can use an early break from the harsh weather we’ve been having.
And… it’s unanimous? Huh? That’s right, though he’s the most famous, Phil is not the only little varmit who makes predictions at this time of year. Nova Scotia’s furry weather forecaster, Shubenacadie Sam, Pennsylvania prognosticator Punxsutawney Phil, Louisiana’s Pierre C. Shadeaux and Gen. Beauregard Lee in Georgia all made it unanimous on Feb. 2 when they, too, failed to spot their shadows.
So… as you enjoy the SuperBowl (if you’re a fan and into US sports), take stock of what the “Old Moon” has in store for your home and family. Look around you and celebrate life with those you care about. And, take heart that Phil, Sam, Pierre, and General Beauregard are predicting that Spring will soon be here. Like the coming of the tides, so are the seasons of our lives.

Happy Birthday Aquarius! You feel inspired this month, and may come up with some new ideas for your career, or with a small business. On the 19th when the Sun moves into Pisces, you may earn extra cash from a creative project; let your imagination soar to explore different concepts. Remember to not take on too many projects — pick and choose wisely; think time management. Caution during the Mercury Retrograde period Feb. 13th to March 7th, when agreements, negotiations, and communication can go awry. Continue negotiations, just avoid signing contracts of any kind and always check and double-check your communication during this time — business and personal. Spiritual Blessing: The fires of your imagination can lead you to productive and rewarding projects.
This is a time to follow your hunches and pay close attention to your communication, as Mecury (the planet of communication) goes retrograde on the 13th. Trust your instinct in both business and personal relationships. Midmonth brings new people into your life — people that can be influential in your future. Avoid making the mistake of working too hard, this month. Relax and enjoy. After the 13th when Mercury goes retrograde you can pull back, listen, and rethink your position. Mid-month as the Sun moves into Pisces, creative energies abound, you’ll be able to tackle just about any project you choose — even those you’ve been putting off for some time. Proceed with caution in all business and financial transactions during Mer retro between the 13th and month’s end. Romantic possibilites are ushered in with the full moon on the 2nd. Enjoy your Valentine’s day with all the fun of flirting and other sexy fireworks. Pay particular attention to your family and the domestic front this month, as there is something going on there that requires your attention. These are actually good times — just take ample caution of business matters during Mercury Retrograde, avoiding signing contracts, of course, and especially with the influence of Uranus (planet of surprise) which can also bring about a disruption or two. As challenges arise, use your creativity to meet and defeat them. Resist creative financial planning, and balance your check book! Saturn (practicality) demands your respect this month. While possible overspending can create dilemmas for you, you have what it takes to strike the right balance between reality and imagination, so create a ‘wishlist’ as next month money flows to you like magic! This is not the best month for travel, although, should you consider it, or have to do so, practice caution, allowing yourself ample time, as delays are probable between the 13th and month’s end, during the Mercury retrograde. Now this is absolutely the best month to entertain, throw a party or get together — schedule a weekend get-away, and dance the nites away after enjoying cocktail parties, lively dinners out, and romantic evenings with that special someone. What possibilities?? Endless!! Valentine’s day looks quite sensual and you’ll enjoy yourself this year. You’ll take advantage of a long overdue vacation by simply enjoying yourself, family and friends. It’s time for a little adventure — just keep it close to home, and enjoy! This can be a good planning month for new ventures, too, and money awaits you simply for the asking. But if your ship comes in after the 13th, be sure to wait in launching concrete business plans until after Mercury goes direct on March 7th. Venus in Pisces facilitates what you do in your homelife, so enjoy the company of family and friends. Between the 2nd and 21st be very careful in areas of finance, both personally and professionally.
